VanderVeen appointed to Michigan Aeronautics Commission by Snyder

Gov. Rick Snyder has announced the appointment of Oakland County Central Services Director J. David VanderVeen to the Michigan Aeronautics Commission. VanderVeen has managed Oakland County airports for more than four decades. "I'm honored and delighted the Governor has confidence in me to promote the aeronautics industry in Michigan," VanderVeen said. "My expertise is in airport infrastructure which, like roads, needs to be maintained." Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said VanderVeen is a superb choice for the Aeronautics Commission. "Dave's knowledge and experience in aviation and managing airports is second to none," said Patterson. "It's a compliment to Oakland County when a member of my staff is appointed to leadership in state government." VanderVeen oversees Oakland County's three airports--Oakland County International Airport (OCIA) in Waterford, Michigan's second busiest airport; Oakland Troy Airport in Troy; and Southwest Oakland Airport in New Hudson. The nation's first LEED-certified airport terminal at OCIA is under construction and scheduled to open this summer. The new terminal at OCIA will feature wind, solar and geothermal energy; advanced insulation; LED lighting; a living wall; and other energy efficiencies. VanderVeen holds a private pilot license and is a member of the board of directors for the Michigan Business Aircraft Association. The Michigan Aeronautics Commission encourages, fosters and participates in the development of aeronautics within the State of Michigan.
