Judge says limo service not needed for arson trial

ANN ARBOR (AP) -- A federal judge sees no need for a limo service to take witnesses 45 miles to a trial in Ann Arbor.
A man charged with arson says his witnesses can't afford to make the trip from Detroit. But rides provided by taxpayers are unnecessary after Judge John Corbett O'Meara put some limits on Calvin Jones' defense strategy.
In a ruling last Friday, the judge says he could change his mind before the June 28 trial depending on the number of witnesses.
Jones is accused of setting a fire at a Detroit commercial building in 2010. The case is assigned to O'Meara, who works at the federal court in Ann Arbor.
