Stare Decisis focus of discussion at Wayne Law

The Michigan Chapter and the Wayne State University Law School Student Chapter of the American Constitution Society will present “The Michigan Supreme Court and Stare Decisis,” featuring Robert A. Sedler, Wayne Law distinguished professor of law, on Tuesday, March 2, at 6 p.m. in the Partrich Auditorium at 471 West Palmer Street in Detroit. The event is free of charge.

Sedler will discuss his study of the court’s 1999-2000 jurisprudence, including several decisions overruling prior decisions of the Court. Based upon his conclusion that the decisions lack legitimacy, Sedler will discuss arguments and strategies available to those litigants who may wish to ask the current Supreme Court to “overrule the overrulings” by the prior Supreme Court.

‘Call for Action’ seeks volunteer attorneys

Volunteer attorneys are being sought by WXYZ-TV Channel 7’s Call for Action.

Every Thursday volunteer attorneys come to the Channel 7 offices to answer incoming calls regarding legal matters.  The phones are open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The attorneys remain anonymous to callers and do not take cases for themselves.  They refer callers to bar associations and give general legal information.

Call for Action provides a light lunch to the volunteer attorneys.  The Channel 7 offices are located at 20777 W. Ten Mile Road in Southfield.  Anyone interested in volunteering should call (248) 827-1108.
