Fundamentals

The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) presented a program on “Fundamentals of Business Legal Issues” Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Schoolcraft College in Livonia.  Attorney John Walsh (pictured) of Fausone Bohn LLP led the program. The course is an introduction to the different types of legal entities that are appropriate for structuring and starting a new business. Tax and liability issues were covered, along with basic elements of a contract, collections, licenses, registrations, employment and property issues, leasing and insurance. It is designed to guide prospective business owners in setting up the organizational structure that will help protect them from unnecessary legal challenges. The MI-SBTDC is part of a national network of Small Business Development Centers committed to the launch of new ventures and growth of existing small companies. The MI-SBTDC is a partner program of the U.S. Small Business Administration providing technical assistance, market research and one-on-one counseling to small companies. Photo by John Meiu.
