Takenaga retires as Wayne County Probate Court’s probate register
The Wayne County Probate Court announced last week the retirement of its probate register, Jeanne Takenaga. Takenaga served as probate register for the Wayne County Probate Court since 1990. Additionally, in 2002, Takenaga was appointed director of Personnel and Labor Relations for the Court. Graduating from Eastern Michigan University and the Detroit College of Law, Takenaga has concentrated her professional career in the areas of probate, juvenile law, and court administration. Prior to her 1990 appointment as probate register, Takenaga was probate manager for the Michigan State Court Administrative Office. She also served as court attorney for the Wayne County Probate Court from 1985 until 1988. Takenaga is a past president of the Michigan Probate and Juvenile Registers Association. She was named Michigan’s 1997 Public Servant of the Year.
Additionally, the Wayne County Probate Court announced the appointment of April K. Maycock as probate register. Maycock will serve as both the probate register and director of information services beginning February 1, 2011.
Maycock has been employed with the Wayne County Probate Court since 1992. She has served as the Court's director of information services since 2004 and has been instrumental in technological advancements within the Court. In 2002, Maycock received her Bachelor of Business Administration with High Distinction from the University of Michigan.

The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association’s “Drink’n’Learn” series kicks off from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Foran’s Grand Trunk at 612 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Judge Stephen Murphy III will be the inaugural expert for the DMBA’s new “Drink ‘n’ Learn” series, designed to combine expert advice and observations with relaxed networking opportunities. Judge Murphy, who has served on the bench of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan since 2008, is also a former U.S. Attorney, Department of Justice litigator, and member of the General Motors Legal Staff. Legal associations present dialogue with civil rights author
The Wolverine Bar Association, the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, and the Association of Black Judges of Michigan will present a dialogue with Prof. Danielle L. McGuire on Tuesday, March 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wayne State University Law School’s Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium.
McGuire is author of “At the Dark End of the Street: Black Women, Rape and Resistance — A New History of the Civil Rights Movement from Rosa Parks to the Rise of Black Power.”
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
