The Michigan Chapter of the American Constitution Society (ACS-MI) presented a program asking “Is the Health Care Reform Legislation Constitutional?” featuring Simon Lazarus (center), public policy counsel to the National Senior Citizens Law Center in Washington, D.C. and one of the leading scholars on the constitutional issues surrounding the health care legislation, on Thursday, April 7, at the Spencer Partrich auditorium at Wayne State University Law School. On hand to welcome Lazarus to the presentation were ACS-MI President Mary Ellen Gurewitz of Sachs Waldman PC, Abe Singer of Pepper Hamilton LLP, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Professor Gary Maveal, and Dan Swanson of Sommers Schwartz PC. “I am going to be explaining why the health reform law, the Affordable Care Act, is constitutional and should be sustained by the Supreme Court when the cases that are challenging its constitutionality get there,” said Lazarus.
