J. Martin Brennan Jr. of Rochester Hills died Friday, Oct. 7, at the age of 58.
Brennan served as a former special assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan and once was a Democratic nominee for the Michigan Supreme Court.
He had been seated on the Rochester Hills City Council representing District 2 since 2007 and served as a member of the Rochester Hills Zoning Board of Appeals from 1997-2007.
Brennan practiced law for 30 years.
He was the former city attorney for the city of Fraser, former president of CMN and a former vice president of Rochester Hills City Council.
Brennan was a 1975 graduate of the University of Michigan, and a 1978 graduate of Detroit College of Law.
He is survived by his wife Leta; children Caitlyn and Trip; and siblings Terry (Ryan) Armbruster, Betsy (Bill) Moynihan, Jean (Nate) Fisher, Joe (Barbara) Brennan, Tony (Janice) Brennan, and Dan (Cristie) Brennan.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday at St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church in Detroit (where Brennan and his wife were married, and where their two children were baptized).
The family has requested that memorials be sent to the Brennan Scholarship Fund.
