Carmen Lyon will never forget the year 2011.
After all, she 1) became pregnant with her second child; 2) graduated from law school; 3) continued her fulltime job as a law clerk; and 4) studied for and passed the Michigan bar exam.
"It was probably the busiest year of my life, but also the most exciting," said Lyon, 29, of Auburn Hills.
Oakland County Circuit Court Wendy Potts said she thought Carmen seemed very talented when she interviewed and hired her to clerk for her in July of 2009.
"Little did I know how outstanding she really is," she said. "Carmen is an exceptional clerk, wonderful wife, mother, law student and Cooley Law Review participant."
Lyon, a 2006 graduate of Oakland University, graduated last spring from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills and took the bar exam in July.
She and her husband, Ben, and their daughter, Piper, 15 months, will welcome a baby boy in a couple of weeks. After things get settled with the new baby, Lyon will start looking for a job as an associate attorney. Until then, she'll continue to clerk for Judge Potts, a job she enjoys.
Potts said Lyon has all the ingredients for a successful career as an attorney.
"I look forward to following the next steps in her legal career," she said.
Lyon said she never had a doubt she could juggle it all.
"I'm really lucky because I've had a lot of family support," she said. "And it's amazing what you can do when you want to."
