U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Steven Whalen (above, fourth from left) recently conducted a live motion call of criminal and civil cases for Cooley Law School students in the Auburn Hills campus’ trial courtroom. The event was sponsored by the Auburn Hills student chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA). The program, which began a couple of years ago, is a continuing program where federal judges move their court to Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus to hear motions. On hand to welcome Whalen to Cooley were (above, left to right) Robert Hamor, FBA Vice President Michael Lee of Law Offices of Lee & Correll, Jessica Lashier, Jennifer Foster, Cooley Professor Alan Gershel, Cooley Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka, and Fahad Haque. “This is absolutely great that we have a magistrate judge coming in talking to students — give us a little bit of an idea of what federal motion practice is like,” noted Hamor.  “I think its going to give us a lot of lessons that we wouldn’t be able to learn inside a classroom.”
