Setting the stage

A justice by day and an operatic performer by night, Marilyn Kelly (far right) took to the stage Oct. 13 for the Michigan Opera Theater’s production of “The Barber of Seville.” Kelly, who will retire from the Supreme Court later this year, earned a supporting, non-singing role in the opera, auditioning against 35 others to win the part. Those who missed opening night can catch Kelly again this weekend, Oct. 19-21 at the Detroit Opera House. As an aside, Kelly isn’t the only member of her “family” to appear on the opera stage. Her dog, Duff, appeared in the Michigan Opera Theater’s production of “La Boheme” several years ago.
