New judge joins Detroit bankruptcy court

Sixth U.S. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Alice M. Batchelder has appointed Mark A. Randon as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Randon received a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1989 and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1992.

After graduating law school, Randon worked as a labor and employment attorney for Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn LLP, and then for Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone PLC, before becoming counsel for United Technologies Automotive.

In 2001, Randon became the youngest individual to be appointed as a State of Michigan district court judge when he was named to 36th District Court in Detroit.

Randon served as a 36th District Court judge from 2001 to July 2009 at which time he was sworn in as a magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Randon served in that position until his appointment as a U.S. bankruptcy judge.

Randon is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Federal Bar Association and the Association of Black Judges of Michigan.
