 Wayne Law professor’s article chosen for Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum June 28

Wayne State University Law School Assistant Professor Sarah Abramowicz’s article, “Adoption and the Limits of Contract in Victorian Adoption Case Law and George Eliot’s Silas Marner,” was chosen for the 2014 Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum.

The forum will be Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, at Stanford Law School in California. Sponsored by the Yale, Harvard and Stanford law schools since 2001, the forum showcases papers selected on a blind basis by a jury of accomplished scholars.
 
Abramowicz’s article was one of two selected for presentation at the session on Law and the Humanities. The article examines Eliot’s 1861 novel, “Silas Marner,” in the context of English adoption case law.
Abramowicz teaches Family Law, Contracts, and Law and Literature at Wayne Law, where she’s been a faculty member since 2007. She holds a doctorate in English literature from Columbia University and a law degree from Columbia Law School.
 

LAD to conduct free outreach clinic in Pontiac July 15

Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) will conduct a free outreach clinic on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the city of Detroit, from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 15 at Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency, 196 Cesar E. Chavez Ave., Pontiac.

Holiday Hours

The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
 
In observance of Independence Day, the 36th District Court will be closed to the public on Friday, July 4. Felony arraignment hearings will be held at the 34th District Court in Romulus. The court will reopen on Monday, July 7.

The Wayne County Probate Court will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Friday, July 4 and will reopen on Monday, July 7 at 8 a.m.

The Michigan Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the State Court Administrative Office will be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
