 Attorney appointed president-elect of NEXTGen Detroit

Steven J. Migliore, a partner in the Corporate Department of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, has been appointed president-elect of NEXTGen Detroit. This organization, which is a part of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, attracts and engages the next generation of Jewish Detroiters through innovative programs and initiatives. Migliore is also a member of the NextGen executive board.

Migliore focuses his practice on representing private equity and venture capital funds and their portfolio companies in mergers, acquisitions, financings, investments and restructurings. He also advises companies on corporate governance and general corporate matters.
 
Migliore earned a J.D., cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School and an MBA from Wayne State University. He received a B.A. from Michigan State University.
 

Attorney Scott Goodwin takes over as 62nd president of MAJ

On July 1st, Attorney Scott A. Goodwin becomes the 62nd president of the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ.)  Goodwin was unanimously elected President by the general membership. He most recently has served as President-Elect.
 
 “It is truly an honor to be elected by my peers to lead this prestigious organization,” Goodwin said. “I have spent my career trying to be a positive force for change and to stand up for victims’ rights. For 70 years the Michigan Association for Justice has been dedicated to procuring civil justice for plaintiffs and preserving citizens’ rights. I am proud to serve as president and continue this noble legacy.”

Goodwin, who attended Michigan State University and the Michigan State University College of Law (formerly Detroit College of Law), is a founding partner of Goodwin & Scieszka, P.C. in Birmingham. Goodwin has been practicing law for more than 27 years and is specialized in personal injury and auto law.   

Goodwin’s firm has held a free legal aid clinic every spring for 27 years. The event helps hundreds of families, with two dozen top attorneys working pro bono for clients. 
With an emphasis on child safety, Goodwin & Scieszka’s annual “Law Day” outreach has donated and fitted 10,000 free bike safety helmets for children.

Lawyer’s Weekly named Goodwin as “Lawyer of the Year,” and the “Best Lawyers in America” list includes his firm in their most recent rankings. Other honors include “Michigan Super Lawyer” (2006-2014) and the coveted “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Goodwin is ranked in the Michigan Super Lawyers Top 100 list. The nationwide AVVO Legal Directory conferred a “10-out-of-10 Superb” rating. 

“There has been a consistent attack on the civil justice system in this state for years. It has never been harder to get your day in court than it is now,” concluded Goodwin. “We will continue to be the first and last defense of the United State Constitution, especially the 7th Amendment, as we fight to guarantee the right to justice for every Michigander.”
