 LAD to conduct free outreach clinic in Detroit Oct. 15 

DETROIT - Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc.(LAD) will conduct a free outreach clinic on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the city of Detroit, on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at Detroit Veterans Center, 2770 Park Ave. 

Attendees are asked to register before 10 a.m., as a LAD attorney will assist only those persons who have done so by that time.
 

Dykema attorney elected to World Services Group board

J. Michael Bernard, a Detroit-based member in Dykema’s Corporate Finance Practice Group and member of the firm’s Executive Board, was recently elected to serve a four-year term on the World Services Group (WSG) Board of Directors at the organization’s 13th Annual Meeting in Hong Kong. 
WSG is a network that brings a full spectrum of leading professional service firms and companies together and offers unique tools and services to facilitate new business opportunities by giving its members immediate access to each other.
Bernard has been active on WSG’s North American Regional Council since 2011, serving as Chair from 2012-2013. Dykema, has been an active member of the WSG network since 2002 participating at all meetings, practice groups, and co-hosting the WSG Annual Meeting in 2011 and the WSG North American Regional Meeting in 2013.
 
Bernard received his B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati.
 

Wayne Law seeks leaders as first cohort for Detroit Equity Action Lab

Wayne State University Law School’s Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights is inviting leaders from local organizations to apply to join a yearlong cohort group for the new Detroit Equity Action Lab.
 
In July, WSU was awarded a three-year, $1.3 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to launch the equity lab at the Keith Center to bring together organizations to address issues of structural racism in Detroit.

Annually, the equity lab will convene a group of leaders from 20 organizations working in the many dimensions of racial equity: community development, education, environment, food security, health care and housing. Participants will meet monthly for skills building workshops led by local and national experts. In addition, participants will initiate group projects to integrate the skills they learn to address racial disparities in metro Detroit.
