 Michigan Supreme Court appoints Meinecke chief judge of 44th District Court

The Michigan Supreme Court has appointed the Hon. Derek W. Meinecke chief judge of the 44th District Court.

Meinecke won election to the 44th District Court in 2012, after serving for more than 10 years in the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office in the special victims unit, focusing on domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and sexual assault.
 
In 2011, he won the Courage to Lead Award from Oakland County S.A.V.E. (Serving Adults who are Vulnerable and/or Elderly) for his efforts to prevent elder abuse, and in 2009 he awarded the Domestic Violence Prevention Award from Oakland County Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence for his work to end domestic violence, prosecute abusers, empower victims and educate police officers and members of the community about the dynamics of abuse.

Meinecke earned his law degree at Wayne State University and worked as a law clerk to the Hon. Daniel Sawicki prior to his work in the prosecutors office.
 

Area attorney elected to American College of Trial Lawyers as Fellow

Gerald J. Gleeson II, a principal in Miller Canfield’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution, has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Gleeson was inducted as a Fellow before an audience of approximately 855 persons during the recent 2014 Annual Meeting of the College in London, England.
 
Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.

Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. 

At Miller Canfield, Gleeson is an experienced trial lawyer knowledgeable in complex business, white-collar criminal law, and family law litigation. His business litigation and arbitration experience includes successful representation of public and private companies and individuals in a variety of complex matters. He also handles internal investigations on behalf of companies and their audit committees. 

 Gleeson has tried nearly 200 jury trials to verdict. 

 He is a member of the board of directors of the Oakland County Bar Association. He received his J.D. (1995) from the Wayne State University Law School and a B.A. (1992) from Kalamazoo College.
