Detroit Business Leaders to brief senior administration official on innovation and patent reform
Local business leaders will discuss the innovation economy and patent reform at a roundtable briefing at 10:30 a.m. Friday at TechTown Detroit. Michelle Lee, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the first woman to head the U.S. patent system, will discuss several key initiatives of the USPTO.
As a principal advisor to President Obama on intellectual property matters, she will also discuss current proposals for patent reform legislation in Congress, goals for protecting intellectual property in upcoming international trade agreements, and more generally, the role of intellectual property in driving innovation.
Annual fundraiser for Women’s Center scheduled for April 24
The Jean Ledwith King Women’s Center of Southeastern Michigan, that provides services for Jackson, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, Monroe, and Oakland counties, will hold its annual fundraiser 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 24, at the Barton Hills Country Club, 730 Country Club Dr., Ann Arbor.
This 15th Anniversary Celebration, “Swing Into Spring 2015,” will include a strolling dinner, live and silent auctions, wine pull, and will feature the II-V-I Orchestra.
Tickets are $100 per person.

The mission of the center, located at 510 S. Maple Road, Ann Arbor, is to promote self-determination for women and families by providing professional services that build confidence, strengthen connections, and create positive change.
Services include counseling, divorce questions and answers, education, and support group, job coaching, and community resources.
Upcoming events at the center will include a spring expressive arts group, a self-discovery writing workshop, divorce/break-up education, and a support group for moving on after a long-term relationship.
