LANSING (AP) — State officials are warning boaters and anglers on Lake St. Clair’s Anchor Bay to steer clear of nets used for the Department of Natural Resources’ annual spring survey.
The survey began last week and runs through May 19. Its primary purpose is to assess the condition of fish populations that are important to recreation.
Crews will use trap nets along a 10-foot contour between the Clinton River and New Baltimore. Each net will be marked with at least two floating flags and nine smaller buoys.
The nets are about 650 feet long. Officials are asking boaters and anglers to look for the markers and avoid them.
Smallmouth bass captured in the nets will be jaw-tagged and released to support research into the Anchor Bay bass fishery.
