Attorney to give TED Talk

Neil Rockind, founder of Southfield-based criminal defense law firm, Rockind Law, has been selected as a speaker for the second annual TEDx Oakland University, which will be held on Oct. 23. TEDx “TED Talks” are events designed to share ideas, inspire wonder and bring the community together to celebrate innovation and provoke the imagination.

For his TED Talk, Rockind will discuss the “joy of the jury.” In an essay he wrote earlier this year for the legal trade journal Michigan Lawyers Weekly, Rockind wrote of his passion for the jury system.

“Of all my responsibilities as a trial attorney, I find jury selection both sacred and the most rewarding. I love selecting a jury! I think if more citizens were aware of the significance behind their civic obligation, they would relish the opportunity to serve.  Well, maybe not relish, but at least they might not dread it – and instead, fully commit to upholding this foundation of freedom set forth in our U.S. Constitution.”

Rockind is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the founding of Rockind Law in 2015 and earlier this month was named a Michigan Super Lawyer for the seventh consecutive year. He was also ranked among the Top 50 Consumer Attorneys in Michigan based on nominations and the research and blue ribbon review process conducted by Super Lawyers.  In addition to his case work, Rockind serves as a legal expert for WDIV Local 4 News and other media outlets and is a contributing author to Michigan Model Criminal Jury Instructions.

Rockind holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He is active in a variety of professional organizations.
