DETROIT (AP) — The Kresge Foundation is awarding 10 grants totaling nearly $2.2 million to support Detroit revitalization efforts.
The foundation’s President and CEO Rip Rapson says in a statement: “The explosion of commercial and residential activity extends well beyond downtown and the Woodward Corridor, yet the tangible results are not yet felt as strongly in neighborhoods as they should be.”
Grants for planning and development go to Eastern Market, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, the Corktown Economic Development Corp. and the Southwest Detroit Business Association.
Four other grants will seek to boost promote neighborhood-level revitalization and strengthen efforts to fight blight.
Two grants renew operating support for organizations.
In all, the Troy-based foundation has made more than $30 million in new grant commitments to Detroit’s revitalization in 2015.
