DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit man convicted in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old French street artist has been sentenced to up to 60 years in prison.
The 30- to 60-year sentence for 19-year-old Dionte Travis was handed down last week by Wayne County Circuit Judge Bruce Morrow.
Travis was found guilty of murder last month in the killing of Bilal Berreni of Paris, who was found with a gunshot wound to the face in 2013. It took months to identify him.
Travis was convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to 16 to 40 years. At his first trial the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on the murder charge.
Two others pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while another suspect was convicted of murder.
