3rd teen charged in death of guinea pig before lacrosse game
GROSSE ILE, Mich. (AP) — A third teenager has been charged in the killing of a guinea pig before a Detroit-area high school lacrosse game.
The boy was 16 at the time, and his case will be handled in juvenile court. As a result, his name wasn’t released.
Police say a guinea pig was killed in April in front of members of the Grosse Ile lacrosse team. Two members of the team, who have graduated, were charged with felonies last week.
A judge said Tuesday that Tanner Coolsaet and Michael Roth must have no contact with animals, except family pets.
The school’s lacrosse season was suspended after the incident.
Man charged in death of woman after 2014 Halloween party
MONROE, Mich. (AP) — A man was charged with second-degree murder Monday in the death of a young woman who was dressed as the villain Poison Ivy when she disappeared from a Halloween party in southeastern Michigan in 2014.
Chelsea Bruck’s remains were found in a wooded area six months after the party in Monroe County’s Frenchtown Township, 35 miles south of Detroit, and a few weeks after her costume was discovered elsewhere.
Daniel Clay, 27, of Newport was arrested Friday at his girlfriend’s mobile home. He appeared in court Monday, asked for a lawyer and didn’t object when a prosecutor urged a judge to keep him locked up in jail.
“I don't want a bond,” Clay said.
Bruck, 22, had been struck in the head, according to the autopsy.
“We have no evidence or reason to believe that the killing of Chelsea Bruck was premeditated,” assistant prosecutor Michael Roehrig told The Monroe News in explaining why Clay wasn’t charged with first-degree murder.
Bruck’s mother and other family members sat in the front row during the arraignment.
Sheriff Dale Malone said Clay has disclosed details to investigators that only the killer would know.
His girlfriend, Kelli Richter, said Clay called her from jail.
“He told me it was an accident, and he told me exactly what happened,” she said. “It's just crazy. You think you know someone, but you really don’t.”
Auto dealership worker found pinned between vehicles dies
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — A 59-year-old suburban Detroit auto dealership employee has died after he was found pinned between two vehicles.
Police in Dearborn say the Lincoln Park resident was partially out of a vehicle he was driving and between one that was parked when he was discovered about 7 a.m. Tuesday by co-workers.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say it’s not immediately clear if the man suffered from a medical condition or was injured by the vehicles.
His daily duties included moving new vehicles on the dealership’s lot.
