The Patriot Week Foundation is launching its First Annual National Library Initiative to be held Sept. 11-17 with the help of a grant from the Oakland County Bar Foundation.
More than 20 metropolitan Detroit area library branches in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties will display books, magazines, videos, DVDs and other materials relating to Patriot Week’s mission.
Libraries also will honor and commemorate current military personnel, veterans and victims and heroes of 9/11.
To complement the materials, libraries will be handing out brochures about the Foundation, flyers with Ways to Celebrate Patriot Week, as well as an Educator’s Guide to the Patriot Week Website which features TV lessons and lesson plans for K-12 educators.
Public libraries currently on board include the communities of Auburn Hills, Center Line, Chesterfield Township, Clarkston, Clawson, Clinton Township, Farmington, Ferndale, Highland Township, Madison Heights, Novi, Rochester Hills, Roseville,
Troy and White Lake as well as the Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library.
Patriot Week renews America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents, speeches and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history.
Patriot Week was created in 2009 by Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah.
