“The Alvin Foon Humanitarian Award was established to honor the memory of one of the MJSF founders and is presented to an individual or individuals for outstanding contributions to athletics and the community,” said Sari Cicurel of the MJSF. Rosen, who served as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for seven years, was appointed to the federal bench in 1990. He served as the chief judicial mediator for the Detroit bankruptcy case, and was the architect of the “grand bargain,” which saved the Detroit Institute of Arts and preserved pensions for city retirees.
