Law Library receives grant to buy remote access legal research database for attorneys

The Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library has received a grant from the Oakland County Bar Foundation to purchase a remote access subscription to the Hein Online legal research database. With the remote access subscription, attorneys will be able to use the database to conduct legal research at their office or home through the Law Library’s website.

The acquisition of the remote access subscription marks the first time the Adams-Pratt Law Library has been able to provide such a service to the legal community.  “This is something that attorneys have requested for a very long time,” states Laura Mancini, Director-Library Services.  “Libraries in general are able to offer remote database access to their patrons in many subject areas. The legal publishing industry has been slow to embrace this practice and currently the William S. Hein & Co., Inc. is the only company in the marketplace to provide this service to law libraries. I am tremendously grateful to Hein and the Oakland County Bar Foundation for making it possible to offer the remote service to our lawyer patrons. I encourage all attorneys to take advantage of this new tool when conducting their legal research.”

Attorneys who wish to the use the Hein Online database outside of the Law Library can access it from the Law Library’s website: http://www.oakgov.com/lawlibrary.  An Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library card will be required to log into the database. Library cards can be obtained in person at the Law Library, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Library card applications can also be found on the Law Library’s website.

Hein Online is a premier online research product with more than 100 million pages of legal history available in an online, fully-searchable, image-based format.  Hein Online
Bridges the gap in legal history by providing comprehensive coverage from inception of more than 1,800 law and law-related periodicals. In addition to its vast collection of law journals, Hein Online also contains the Congressional Record Bound volumes in entirety, complete coverage of U.S. Reports back to 1754, famous world trials dating back to the early 1700’s, legal classics from the 16th to the 20th centuries, the United Nations and League of Nations Treaty Series, all United States Treaties, the Federal Register from inception in 1936, the CFR from inception in 1938, and much more.

The Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library is located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Building 14 East. It is on the second floor of the West Wing Extension, which is the five-story glass building attached to the main courthouse.
