A presentation on the “New” Michigan Domestic Asset Protection Trust Act was hosted March 7 by Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss at its Southfield offices. The program was held in cooperation with the Debtor/Creditor Rights Committee of the State Bar of Michigan. Judith Greenstone Miller (center), a partner with Jaffe, was a featured speaker along with Robert Tiplady II (left), an attorney with Dykema Gossett. Also pictured is Paul Hage, a partner with Jaffe. Michigan is now one of 17 states that have adopted legislation creating protection for individuals from creditors, according to Miller. The legislation, which validates self-settled trusts that were previously held to be invalid against creditors by the Michigan Supreme Court, was signed into law last December and became effective March 8.
