Walk for Justice set for Saturday at Zoo


The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic will hold its 5th Annual Walk for Justice at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, April 22 starting at 8 a.m.

The cost of tickets is $40 through the day of the Walk, available at www.walkforjustice.org. Law students can register for $20 and children, up to 16 years old, are admitted for free. The registration fee includes zoo admission, parking, a Walk for Justice T-shirt, refreshments and entry into a door prize drawing.

Guests will enjoy face painting, a magician, clowns and activities for children, as well as have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses.

All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army’s William Booth Legal Aid Clinic, which has helped to resolve more than 20,000 legal issues affecting low income families, individuals and U.S. military veterans. The clinic provides quality guidance and advocacy in a wide variety of areas including family matters , housing, credit and disability issues.

Since 1994, the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic has been providing legal counsel to participants of the Salvation Army Detroit Harbor Light Center, as well as individuals within the community at or below the poverty level.

 

Adams-Pratt Law Library to host  Westlaw training


By popular demand, the Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library is bringing back its Westlaw training classes on Wednesday, May 10.  Attendees can sign up for one of two scheduled sessions that day: 12:15-1 p.m. or 1:15- 2 p.m.

Attorneys and legal professionals who wish to learn how to use Westlaw for the first time or those who wish to have a refresher course in navigating the database are encouraged to attend the sessions. The classes will be taught by Denice D’Amore Fogle, a research specialist from Thomson Reuters.

All classes are free and are open to any Michigan attorney or legal professional. Attendees can register in advance by calling the Law Library at (248) 858-0012 or by e-mailing oclib@oakgov.com.

The Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library is located at 1200 N. Telegraph in Pontiac inside of the Oakland County Courthouse. Attendees should use the Courthouse West Entrance to access the Law Library and come to the second floor.

2nd Annual Jesuit Day of Service April 22
 

Join Detroit Mercy Law students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, 629 E. Jefferson Ave. in Detroit for the 2nd Annual Jesuit Day of Service.

Working together to make a difference in the community is part of a national initiative for Jesuit schools.

The day of service will benefit Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church and its Pope Francis Warming Center.
