Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and the Shirin Ebadi House Council of the Auburn Hills campus hosted “The Art of Networking — Alumni Tips from the Trenches.” The event featured WMU-Cooley graduates, including Aaron Sohaski, Henry Ford Health System; and Amber Cervantez, Hewson & Van Hellemont P.C.
During the event, Sohaski and Cervantez answered students’ questions such as how to network at a State Bar of Michigan event when you don’t know anyone, navigating a career fair, preparing for unexpected networking opportunities, and how to craft five essential “elevator” pitches.
Cervantez, who serves as president of the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan and Sohaski, an appointee to the 21st Century Law Practice Task Force, both emphasized that successful networking during law school will lead to meaningful opportunities within the legal community.
WMU-Cooley Auburn Hills campus Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka said, “We are proud of these accomplished alumni who set the bar for our students to follow.”
