Members of the Student Bar Association (SBA) from WMU-Cooley Law School Lansing visited Reuter Park Wednesday, Nov. 15 delivering items collected to aid Cardboard Prophets, an organization helping the homeless of Lansing. Assistant Dean Mable Martin Scott and Assistant to the Associate Dean Kathy Fleming joined the students as they presented donations to volunteers of Cardboard Prophets.
The SBA hosted a collection drive during the month of November, where campus students, faculty and staff donated items such as socks, gloves, scarves and hats for the homeless.
Cardboard Prophets is a street-based outreach program in Lansing founded by Mike Karl. Its goal is to tell the stories of those on the streets and give them second chances through creative ideas. They focus on involving the community to achieve real change for the homeless, as well as helping to restore faith in humanity.
“It was great to see the direct effects our students’ efforts had on the community,” said Martin Scott. “It doesn’t take a huge amount of effort to make a difference, every contribution helps.”
Students helped volunteers from Cardboard Prophets distribute items to the homeless. The SBA plans to continue partnering with Cardboard Prophets to promote collection efforts on campus as a way of giving back to the Lansing community.
