Mark Knoth, Kerr Russell member and chair of the firm’s Labor, Employment, Employee Benefits and ERISA Practice Group, will be part of a panel presentation “Revisiting the Evolving Role of Wage & Hour Insurance in EPL Coverage: New Exposures, Claims Trends and Coverage Challenges” on January 30 for the 26th National Conference on Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) at the Andaz Wall Street in New York City. Other featured speakers at the conference include Victoria Lipnic, acting chair of the US EEOC; Philip Miscimarra, chairman of the NLRB; and Marvin Kaplan, board member of the NLRB.
For his panel, Knoth will join Machua Millett, Marsh’s Chief Innovation Officer, FINPRO US; Paul Nash, Beazley Group’s Underwriter – Management Liability Specialty Lines; and Julianna Ryan of Kaufman Borgeest & Ryan LLP. The session will address the expanding insurance marketplace for wage & hour claims coverage, offer an understanding of what underwriters are looking for in evaluating wage & hour risk (including methods used and challenges faced in underwriting this risk); provide an overview of the role of wage & hour insurance in the defense and settlement of claims; assess how wage & hour policies are evolving; address common challenges that may arise when wage & hour insurance is in place; and identify the type of companies that need wage & hour insurance most.
Knoth has over 20 years of experience representing employers in a wide range of employment and labor law matters. He drafts employee policies, handbooks, contracts, and covenants not to compete, and investigates threats of violence, allegations of harassment, and other employee misconduct. He represents employers in investigations conducted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the Michigan and US Departments of Labor, and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. As a special mediator for the EEOC, Knoth facilitates the resolution of charges of discrimination brought against employers.
