Who doesn’t want something wonderful for free?
In a move that helps the environment, people’s pocketbooks, and a few helper agencies, Watermark 920 sponsored a second Swap Not Shop event last Saturday. The clothes and accessories were free, based on a large number of donations that poured in, but there was a $5 admission charge. By the looks of people shopping and people leaving, none of them empty-handed, the price was well worth it.
Though previously at The Coffee Factory, this event was in the larger room at Watermark 920 because the coffee shop had proven too small. It was also possible to buy a mimosa at the Watermark’s bar, though most seemed more intent on swapping.
Ultimately, the admission fees went to fund three teacher projects at Muskegon Middle School, including helping out the “adopted” teacher, Emily Hoffman-Sperry, and giving clothes to Mrs. Mancuso’s Girls Style Closet. Giving the donations through www.donorschoose.org allowed the gift to be matched one for one.
Organizers promise another event net fall.
