Janice May Kohls, who together with her husband Ron owned and operated the Jackson County Legal News for almost four decades, died July 24 in Jackson at the age of 84.
A native of Barryton in Michigan’s Mecosta County, Kohls later moved to Haslett where she graduated high school.
She and Ron were married on March 27, 1955 in Okemos. They raised four children and lived many years in Jackson, where they owned and operated the Jackson County Legal News for 38 years until selling the paper and retiring in 2004.
Jan is survived by her husband, Ronald; daughter, Rhonda Kohls-Dailey (Joe Dailey); sons David (Lily), Brian (Jeremy), and Greg (Maritoni); brother Dennis Bongard; sister Nancy Wing; grandchildren, Sidney, Brian, Greta and Matthew; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, August 12 at the First Congregational Church, 120 N. Jackson Street in downtown Jackson, preceded by a visitation hour at noon, and with a luncheon at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Congregational Church.
