New book guides cannabis lawyers through legal needs challenging the industry

A new book from the American Bar Association, “Cannabis Law: A Primer on Federal and State Law Regarding Marijuana, Hemp and CBD,” follows the rapid growth of the cannabis industry in recent years, including commercial availability, the range of products, revenues and continuing legalization efforts at both the state and federal levels.

The book, which includes legal insights from industry authorities in the United States and Canada, is the first ABA treatise of its kind and features contributions from 27 Perkins Coie cannabis attorneys and three industry experts.

Barak Cohen, the chair of Perkins Coie’s Cannabis Law industry group, and associate Michael Bleicher edited the book.

“With more and more businesses investing in the cannabis industry, we wanted to provide a timely and accessible go-to guide on the federal and state laws governing the industry, which is heavily regulated across the nation,” said Cohen. “With legal sales of medical and adult-use marijuana projected to reach $30 billion in 2025, and a new Democratic-led Congress in Washington, D.C., our treatise addresses critical legal questions and challenges for leading cannabis companies as well as new entrants.”
