Wayne Law hosts annual Public Interest Career Fair

Nearly 80 students and 30 employers participated in Wayne State University Law School’s annual Public Interest Career Fair in January.

During the virtual event presented by the Law School’s Office of Career and Professional Development, students met and networked with attorneys representing an array of employers, including nonprofit organizations; federal, state and local government agencies; and Wayne Law’s Experiential Learning program. The virtual format welcomed out-of-state employers that typically wouldn’t be able to participate due to geographical constraints. Students and employers alike applauded the event, and several students have received summer internship offers following the program.

The event was made possible by a new web-based networking and interview software that allowed students to pre-register for small group sessions with individual employers and receive automated schedules and session links.
Participating organizations included:

ACLU of Michigan; City of Detroit Law Department; Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project; Elder Justice Initiative; Farmworker Legal Services; Freedom House; Great Lakes Environmental Law Center; Lakeshore Legal Aid; Legal Aid and Defender Association; Legal Services of Eastern Michigan; Legal Services of South Central Michigan; Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office; Marion County Public Defender Agency; Michigan Immigrant Rights Center; Michigan Poverty Law Program; Michigan Children’s Law Center; Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence; Michigan Community Resources; Michigan Department of Attorney General; Michigan Department of Civil Rights; Michigan Legal Help; Neighborhood Legal Services; State Appellate Defender Office; Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice; U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan; U.S. Department of Justice Environmental and Natural Resources Division; U.S. National Labor Relations Board; U.S. Office of Special Counsel; Washtenaw County Public Defender; Wayne Law Experiential Learning program; Appeal and Post-Conviction Advocacy Clinic; Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic; Business and Community Law Clinic; Community Advocacy Clinic; Disability Law Clinic; Free Legal Aid Clinic; Immigration Appellate Advocacy Clinic; Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer Clinic; Patent Procurement Clinic; Externship program.
