Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Arianne Slay to the 22nd Circuit Court of Washtenaw County Government. This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the retirement of Judge Archie Brown that begins Dec 7.

With 100 percent of Washtenaw County voting precincts reporting, Slay secured 90,094 votes during the Nov. 8 general election, defeating Marla Linderman Richelew who garnered 36,888 votes.

The seat covers all circuit court matters for Washtenaw County. In general, the circuit court handles all civil cases with claims of more than $25,000 and all felony criminal cases.

Slay is currently a deputy Ann Arbor City Attorney. Prior to that role, she prosecuted domestic violence cases in the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

During her time at Michigan State College of Law, Slay was president of the Black Law Students Association and interned at the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Offices. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from MSU.
