‘Backlog Reduction’ explored by NCSC
The National Center for State Courts will present the webinar “Implementing a Plan — Backlog Reduction” on Monday, January 9, beginning at 2 p.m. via Zoom.
The Conference of Chief Justices and Conference of State Court Administrators Rapid Response Team continues its Backlog Reduction Workshop series.The workshop, the third installment in the webinar series, is being offered with the support of the State Justice Institute.
Most courts are still working their way through a pandemic-generated case backlog. The NCSC is bringing together court leaders to discuss the tools and strategies that have worked for them.
Panelists will discuss measuring backlog, identifying resources and tools courts can use to help move cases, evaluating the effect of interventions and maintaining the momentum required to tackle this additional workload.

WMU-Cooley plans online ‘MLK Day of Remembrance’
As part of its Community Conversations virtual event series, Western Michigan University Cooley Law School will present “MLK Day Remembrance with Robyn McCoy” online Tuesday, January 17, from noon to 1 p.m.
McCoy is a partner with McCoy & Associates PLLC in Ann Arbor. She has worked as a deputy defender for the Legal Aid Defender Association in Detroit and as a Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem defense attorney and educational advocate at the Michigan Children’s Law Center in Detroit.
McCoy is president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, past president and board member at large of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association, vice chair for Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus, and a member of the Wolverine Bar Association, the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar, the National Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Washtenaw County Bar Association.

Governor appoints chief legal counsel
Christina Grossi has been appointed chief legal counsel for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Grossi served in the Michigan Department of Attorney General for 12 years, most recently as Chief Deputy Attorney General.
During her tenure with the department, Grossi worked on several high-profile cases and investigations, including securing the injunction against Michigan’s 1931 abortion law.
An adjunct professor at Michigan State University, Grossi is an MSU graduate and received her juris doctor degree at Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School.
