Wolverine Bar to host President’s Dinner June 22

The Wolverine Bar Association will host its 2023 President’s Dinner on Thursday, June 22, at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 315 E. Warren Ave. in Detroit.

The event will celebrate a successful bar year led by President Allen W. Venable, the transition of leadership from outgoing president to incoming president, and the induction of the Wolverine Bar’s 2022-2023 Board of Directors.  This year’s keynote speaker will be Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kyra Harris Bolden, the first African American woman on the Michigan Supreme Court.  The dinner will also feature State Bar of Michigan President James W. Heath with remarks on the SBM’s efforts on diversity and inclusion.

The evening includes a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. and a dinner program starting 6 p.m. including a strolling buffet and sponsored open bar (with cash bar available).  The event is $60 for Wolverine Bar members and $65 for non-members.  To purchase tickets, visit https://bit.ly/2023-WBA-Presidents-Dinner.


ALA to present ‘Legal Office Space Research & Trends’ ?program July 12

The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators will present a program on “Legal Office Space Research & Trends for Hybrid, Attraction, & Retention” Wednesday, July 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Steelcase + NBS Commercial Interiors, 2595 Bellingham Rd. in Troy.

Patricia Kramer, principal researcher for Workplace Futures at Steelcase, will present her team’s recent research into the legal industry and how space is facilitating productivity, collaboration, attraction, and retention.  The program will include showroom tours, networking time, and appetizers and drinks on the patio.

Defense attorney to discuss ‘Daubert Hearings’ July 18

As part of the 2023 Virtual Lunchtime Trainings, the State Appellate Defender Office and the Criminal Defense Resource Center will present a webinar on “Daubert Hearings” Tuesday, July 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.  

This training will feature criminal defense attorney Christopher Langholz, assistant public defender with Ottawa County Public Defender.
