Climate change event set October 25 at the Book

West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) will host Climate Change and the Great Lakes, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Book Nook & Java Shop, 8774 Ferry St., Montague, presented by Dr. Kevin B. Strychar, professor at the Annis Water Resources Institute – Grand Valley University.

Strychar's expertise lies in unraveling the biological consequences of climate change, including how warming temperatures affect the spread of pathogens and diseases in our water habitats. This presentation is free and open to the public.

As temperatures continue to soar, we face the likelihood of significant shifts in the Great Lakes environment. Toxic algae blooms could become more prevalent, hypoxic zones with dangerously low oxygen levels may expand, and invasive species and their associated pathogens could further threaten the native species.
