The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA), along with partnering affinity bar associations, hosted the biennial Taste of Diversity cocktail reception on Thursday, October 19, at the Great Lakes Culinary Center in Southfield. Among those enjoying the festive atmosphere with great food and friends were (l-r) Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Secretary Kristina Bilowus of Michigan State University College of Law; Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant, immediate past president of the Association of Black Judges of Michigan; Shane Kolo of Oakland County Circuit Court; and OCBA President Melinda Deel of Melinda N. Deel PLLC. Also during the event, the Michael K. Lee Memorial Award was presented to Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant and the Leon Hubbard Community Service Award was presented to the State Appellate Defender Office's Project Reentry. The Taste of Diversity is sponsored by the OCBA Diversity and Inclusion Committee. It was established in 2015 to celebrate diversity and to work together with area affinity bars to promote an awareness of the need for increased diversity in the legal profession. Partnering bar associations included Armenian-American Bar Association, Association of Black Judges of Michigan, Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, Detroit Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan, Incorporated Society of Irish-American Lawyers, Jewish Bar Association of Michigan, Leadership Council on Legal Diversity – Detroit Region, Macomb County Bar Association, Michigan Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Michigan District Judges Association, Michigan Judges Association, National Arab-American Bar Association - Michigan, Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, South Asian Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Women’s Bar Association - Oakland Region of WLAM, and Women Lawyers Association of Michigan - Wayne Region.
