Connecticut High court to hear DNA claim

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) § The Connecticut Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on whether a missing teen's brothers should have to submit DNA to satisfy a convicted killer's claim that he is alive and hiding in Italy. Thomas Marra Jr. is serving a 125-year prison sentence in the 1984 death of 15-year-old Alex Palmieri of Bridgeport. Witnesses testified Palmieri was beaten with a baseball bat, and that his body was crammed into a refrigerator and dumped into Bridgeport Harbor. Prosecutors say Marra thought Palmieri planned to testify against him about their interstate car-theft ring. A sneaker and foot bones washed ashore two years after Palmieri's disappearance. His girlfriend identified the sneaker as Palmieri's, but DNA testing was not available at the time to test the bones. Marra wants DNA from the bones compared with that of Palmieri's brothers. The Supreme Court hears arguments Wednesday about the DNA testing.
