Law firm appoints co-chairs to its Diversity Committee

Dickinson Wright recently appointed W. Anthony (Tony) Jenkins to chief diversity officer. Jenkins, a member in the firm's Detroit office, is the first person to serve as its chief diversity officer and will remain co-chair of the firm's Diversity Committee. In these roles, Jenkins will be responsible for oversight and strategic planning of the firm's diversity initiatives. "In his new role as chief diversity officer, Tony will continue to further Dickinson Wright's long-standing commitment to diversity within the firm, within the legal profession, and in the communities in which our attorneys live and work," said William T. Burgess, Dickinson Wright's CEO. "When Tony becomes president of the State Bar of Michigan later this year, I expect his activities as chief diversity officer and co-chair of the firm's Diversity Committee will coincide with important components of his public platform." Jenkins practices real estate, corporate/business and public finance law. He counsels companies ranging from privately-held start-up ventures to public, multi-national corporations on real estate matters, including development, acquisitions, financing, leasing, disposition and title matters. His corporate practice includes corporate formations and capitalizations, contracts, joint venture agreements, and mergers and acquisitions. Jenkins is a nationally-recognized expert in the formation and certification of minority business enterprises under the policies and procedures of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). He also is a former Chairperson of the Certification Committee, and a former Director of the Board, of the Michigan Chapter of the NMSDC. His public finance practice focuses on representing municipalities issuing tax-exempt bonds for public projects, and investment banks that purchase/syndicate such bonds. At the same time, Dickinson Wright announced the appointment of Kathleen A. (Kathy) Lang as director of strategic development. As part of her new role, Lang, a member in the firm's Detroit office, was also appointed co-chair of the firm's Diversity Committee. In these roles, Lang will oversee some of the firm's key initiatives, including the continued enhancement of its diversity mission and the development of a business development training and mentoring program for associates. "Career development at all levels of a professional service organization, but particularly among associates with increasingly diverse backgrounds, is critical to the organization's future growth and success," said William T. Burgess, Dickinson Wright's CEO. "Kathy has a proven track record in this area, and the ability to combine her skills and leadership on diversity initiatives and career development is a perfect fit with our strategic plan." Lang focuses her practice in general commercial litigation, including automotive litigation, class actions, and intellectual property litigation. She has served as lead trial counsel for many domestic and foreign corporations. She has tried and arbitrated a wide-variety of cases, including those arising from product liability, toxic tort, contractual disputes, and business torts, and is often involved in pre-litigation counseling and alternative dispute resolution of claims.
