State suit against town's sewer district moves on
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- A hearing is set in a lawsuit filed by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality against a sewer district that serves a small Newton County town.
The state DEQ will present its case against Marble Falls Sewer Improvement District No. 1 on Tuesday before Circuit Judge Shawn Womack. The agency wants a court order to stop the dumping of raw sewage into Mill Creek, which is a tributary of the Buffalo National River.
DEQ director Teresa Marks says the sewer district has a history of noncompliance with state regulations that goes back 20 years.
The agency's lawsuit is proceeding even though a new group of district commissioners have taken over the sewer system and are trying to develop a long-term fix to the issue.

Las Cruces man faces charges for impregnating teen
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) -- A 23-year-old Las Cruces man has been indicted on child sex charges after he allegedly impregnated a 14-year-old girl.
Austin Villado was indicted on eight felony child sex charges for having sex with the high school student at her home while the girl's mother was at work.
Court documents say the 14-year-old girl met Villado in September and they began having sex within weeks. Less than a month later, she was pregnant. The girl told investigators Villado didn't believe she was pregnant and said he didn't want to get in trouble because of her age.
The teenager broke up with the alleged gang member in December because he began dating someone else.
Villado was on probation for a burglary conviction at the time he was arrested so is not eligible for bond.
