Angry judge punishes woman with child-care problem
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) ? A Detroit-area judge ordered a stay-at-home mom to sit through a murder trial after she was late for jury selection because she couldn't find child care.
Carmela Khury was in court Friday and part of Monday. She was released from the two-week trial after Michigan court officials demanded the judge drop the order or face sanctions.
The Detroit Free Press says Khury was released at noon Monday ? after a lecture from Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman.
The Rochester Hills woman says "it was very upsetting." The mother of a 3-year-old child and an 8-month-old baby couldn't line up child care last Thursday and arrived late to Bowman's court with her kids. Khury's mother was undergoing oral surgery.
The judge declined to comment.

Geoffrey Feiger sues makers of 'The Hurt Locker'
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) ? A bomb disposal expert who served in the Iraq war is suing the makers of "The Hurt Locker" in Detroit federal court, alleging they falsely claim the characters in the Oscar-nominated film are fictional.
The multimillion-dollar lawsuit is being filed by Southfield attorney Geoffrey Fieger on behalf of Master Sgt. Jeffrey Sarver.
Fieger and Sarver claim the film's screenwriter was embedded in Sarver's unit, and the information he gathered was used in the film. Sarver says he is the main character.
The movie's U.S. distributor, Summit Entertainment, says it "distributed the film based on a fictional screenplay" and hopes "for a quick resolution to the claims made by Master Sgt. Sarver."
