WSU Law Journal symposium on rebuilding Detroit set for March 26

The Journal of Law in Society at Wayne State University Law School will host a symposium titled "Rebuilding the Post-Industrial City," from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on March 26 in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. The symposium will address Detroit's economic decline over the last 30 years and discuss approaches that may help the city rise up from its post-industrial malaise. Panels will highlight right-sizing, attracting the middle class, economic development and environmental concerns. It will feature Detroit Deputy Mayor Saul Green and Wayne Law Professor John Mogk, a nationally renowned urban planning expert. It will also feature the following confirmed speakers: * Michael Brady, Community Legal Resources, Vacant Property Campaign * John Callewaert, Ph.D., Integrated Assessment Program director, Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute at the University of Michigan * Lou Glazer, president, Michigan Future * Louise Jezierski, associate professor, Michigan State University * Dan Kildee, Genessee County treasurer * Rex L. LaMore, senior specialist and director, Center for Community & Economic Dev., Michigan State University * Carol Miller, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Wayne State University * Jay Williams, Youngstown, Ohio mayor Moderators include Wayne Law professors Mogk and Noah Hall. Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman will provide the welcoming remarks and Professor Peter Hammer, who also serves as director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights, will offer closing observations. Event registration will begin at 9 a.m. Attendees will break for lunch from noon - 1:15 p.m. and enjoy a closing reception from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
