State - Detroit WSU plans new programs this fall on elec. vehicles

DETROIT (AP) -- Wayne State University in Detroit is planning three new academic programs this fall focused on engineering electric-drive vehicles.
The school's Board of Governors on Wednesday approved the programs, which are funded by a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy announced in August under the federal economic stimulus program.
The school says the programs aim to meet the auto industry's need for more such engineers amid increasing demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles.
The programs include a bachelor of science degree in electric transportation technology, a master of science in electric-drive vehicle engineering and a graduate certificate program in electric-drive vehicle engineering.
