State - Honigman attorney gives address at 2010 Energy Conference

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) Partner Margaret E. Greene was recently a featured speaker in the Executive Strategy Session at the Energy Conference and Exhibition 2010 hosted by DTE Energy and the Engineering Society of Detroit. Greene, who is a partner in the firm's Real Estate Department and co-chair of its Sustainability and Renewable Energy Practice Group, discussed current trends in commercial real estate energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives, and the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Greene has earned designation by the U.S. Green Building Council as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. The LEED AP distinguishes Greene as a construction project team member qualified to manage the LEED certification process for the project due to her comprehensive understanding of the intent of LEED goals, the technical approaches to achieve such goals, and the synergies between integrated design and engineering strategies developed by the project team members for the project. In her more than 25-year construction law practice, Greene has primarily represented project owners in real estate transactions related to construction, including project planning, selection of project delivery strategies, evaluation and allocation of project risks and contracting, as well as the resolution of issues during design and construction. Greene helped lead Honigman's efforts in organizing its interdisciplinary Sustainability and Renewable Energy Practice Group, a cutting-edge team of experienced attorneys from Honigman's Environmental, Tax, Real Estate, Energy/Regulatory, Investment Incentives and Tax Savings, Corporate and Securities, and Intellectual Property and Technology practice groups. The Sustainability and Renewable Energy Practice Group counsels clients on a wide array of legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with sustainability matters, including reporting requirements, the generation and distribution of renewable and alternative energy resources, energy efficiency initiatives, LEED-certified high performance buildings, and other "green" real estate development projects, along with the development and financing of new sustainability technologies. She has been included in Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers from 2006 to the present, and has been named by Michigan Super Lawyers as one of the top 50 women lawyers in Michigan during the same time period. Greene is AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and was named a Top Lawyer by DBusiness in 2010. Greene earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School and an M.A., with honors, and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Western Michigan University.
