State - 'Golf 10' lining up to tee off

The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) will host "Golf'10" on Monday, July 26. This year the event will take place on the storied South Course of the Oakland Hills Country Club, located at 3951 West Maple Road in Bloomfield Hills. The Committee Chair is Lynn Capp Sirich; Co-Chairing is Rob Morad, and acting as a liaison is Lisa Elliot, without who the event would not be possible. "The OCBA golf outing is always a great success and a lot of fun," says Sirich, who hopes this year for good weather, fun and smooth play. The famed 18-hole South Course, also known as "The Monster", has been played by some of the world's best golfers including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Ben Hogan. The South Course opened in 1917, measuring 7105 yards from the longest tees, and since has hosted many prestigious professional golf tournaments. The 16 Major Championships hosted include: six U.S. Opens; two U.S. Senior Opens; U.S. Women's Amateur; U.S. Men's Amateur; Western Open; the Carling World Open; the 35th Ryder Cup in 2004; and three PGA Championships which includes the 90th PGA Championship in 2008. "Oakland Hills offered both the North and South Course," says Sirich, "The committee decided to move to the South Course after the North Course more than sold out last year. While the cost is higher, the event sold out more quickly." Last year's winning foursome included: Henry Nirenberg, Stuart Schwartz, Paul Nirenberg and Hon. Richard Kuhn Jr. Unfortunately the event is sold out, however attorneys can still attend the dinner portion for $100 or sponsor a hole for $350. "We always need hole sponsors and we are working hard to ensure that all 18 holes are covered," says Sirich on the upcoming event. Additional organizing committee members include: Deborah Baughman, Jodi Debbrecht, Mark Harper, Brian Meyer, Todd Roeser, Heidi Wagner-Dorn and Celeste Wolfe. There will be no refunds due to rain.
