Seven of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP's key practice areas received national rankings in the inaugural U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers "2010 Best Law Firms" and 32 practice areas received metropolitan rankings. Honigman was the only Michigan law firm to be recognized in the national rankings for Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Venture Capital, Securities/Capital Markets and Tax. The firms ranked with Honigman include some of the largest money-center law firms in the country. The firm's Bankruptcy and Creditor Debt/Insolvency Reorganization Law, Corporate and General Commercial Litigation practices also were ranked nationally.
In addition, 32 of its practice areas received metropolitan rankings, which recognized practice areas in specific geographic areas, in this case, in Michigan cities. Honigman was the only Michigan firm to be recognized in the Michigan metropolitan rankings for its Venture Capital and Private Equity practices.
The rankings were a result of the compilation of survey responses from major clients and leading lawyers who were asked to rate the law firms they consider best in their practice area. National and metropolitan rankings place the law firms into three tiers of rankings. According to U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers, the rankings provide a comprehensive view of the U.S. legal profession that is unprecedented both in the range of firms represented and in the range of qualitative and quantitative data used to develop the rankings.
