Bodman attorney speaks to lighting industry

Harvey W. Berman, a partner in Bodman LLP's Ann Arbor office and chair of the firm's Construction Practice Group, was a featured speaker at the Second Annual Michigan Solid State Lighting Association (MSSLA) Symposium held at the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus on November 10.

The symposium attracted more than 100 officials from lighting manufacturers, industry suppliers, municipalities, and lighting industry consulting firms.

Berman's presentation, "LED 1, 2, 3 - Key Contract Issues and Solutions," addressed the benefits of LED (light-emitting diode) lighting, including energy efficiency, realistic color balance, low heat generation, and longer lifespan than conventional lighting. He also discussed warranty requirements and insurance issues for manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and builders.

Berman is one of only seventeen Michigan lawyers to be certified as a LEED Accredited Professional. He focuses on "green" building and "lean" construction matters and is highly sought after as a speaker and author on topics relating to the legal aspects of sustainable building. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2010 under Construction Law and in Michigan Super Lawyers & Rising Stars 2010 under Construction/Surety Law.

He is active in many construction industry associations, including the Washtenaw Contractors Association, Lean Construction Institute, Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor, and National Association of the Remodeling Industry of Southeast Michigan. Berman is certified by the State of Michigan and the Michigan Association of Home Builders as a licensing instructor for builders and remodelers. He writes a monthly column for AnnArbor.com Business Review on environmentally responsible building and other "green" topics.
