8 students elected to board of Journal of Law in Society

Eight Wayne State University Law School students were recently elected to the Journal of Law in Society 2011-12 Board. Students elected to the 2011-12 board include: Editor-in-Chief Chelsea Zuzindlak, Managing Editor Amanda Haverty-Harris, Symposium Director John Zervos, Reviewing Editor Annemarie Linares, Business Editor Anlyn Addis, Public Relations Director Alyssa Yeip, Senior Note Editor Eric Turnbull and Article Editor Hannah Doherty. As the scholarly arm of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights, the Journal addresses social policy issues in a legal context, with participation from legal scholars, jurists, practitioners and students. Combining legal theory with social reality, the Journal provides a unique forum for the discussion of cutting-edge issues currently affecting American society, and serves as an educational and practical tool for its audience. The Journal is managed and edited by Wayne Law students and published twice annually. Additionally, the Journal board hosts an annual academic symposium every spring. "I would like to congratulate the new board members of the Journal of Law in Society," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "The Journal of Law in Society has evolved and matured under the excellent leadership of our students. I have been impressed by their efforts and am confident the new board members will continue in this tradition. I look forward to working with them." According to Zuzindlak, the new board is already focused on future issues. "In step with its tradition of providing scholarly discourse at the intersection of law and society, the Journal will publish two issues next year that focus on specific legal questions relating to social injustices affecting Detroit and other parts of the world," Zuzindlak said. Added Zervos, "Our partnership with the Keith Center allows the Journal greater opportunities to help strengthen the relationship between Wayne Law and the larger Detroit community. We look forward to providing readers, the community and future symposium attendees with unique forums to discuss timely civil rights and social justice issues." The incoming board will officially begin its tenure on May 23, the first Monday following the Law School's Commencement.
