Chance to connect and construct Patent attorney named to Chinese community group board

By Jo Mathis Legal News Attorney Junqi "Jean" Hang has been appointed to the board of directors of the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit. During her three-year term, Hang will help direct the non-profit organization's initiatives to promote bonding between the Chinese community and the American mainstream. "I envision CAGD a great platform to connect, to voice, and to construct," said Hang, a patent attorney with Brooks Kushman P.C. of Southfield. The Chinese Association of Greater Detroit (CAGD) was established in 1992 and is primarily made up of professionals with Chinese heritage working and living in metropolitan Detroit. The Chinese community in Detroit is closely related to the American mainstream, and that's especially visible in the automotive industry, Hang said. Major Detroit-based companies value the substantial presence of Chinese-originating employees in their workforce and support the regional organizations of people of Chinese origin, she said "In a nutshell, I have seen the Chinese-American relations being constructed and nurtured in a healthier way than ever," said Hang, who had been a research scientist at Pfizer before joining Brooks Kushman as a patent attorney. The CAGD is the largest Chinese community group in the metro-Detroit area, and receives financial support from the Detroit-based businesses, she added. "I look forward to helping further develop the organization's already successful programs and initiatives," Hang said. Hang prepares and prosecutes chemical and biological patent applications at Brooks Kushman. Fluent in Mandarin, Hang also has an active practice managing Chinese patent portfolios, counseling clients and preparing legal opinions. Hang earned a doctorate degree in biochemistry and physiology from Wayne State University School of Medicine and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit For more information about CAGD, go to www.cagd-us.org.
